Optus 'Give Whales A Voice'- Integrated Campaign
The problem: Most Australians are appalled by whaling but feel powerless to do anything about it. It’s seen to be an issue that’s largely determined by governments and international law.
The idea: Whales may be the loudest animals on the planet, but when it comes to whaling their voices are not heard- so we asked Australians to speak for them. We invited people to record a single word using their computer or mobile phone, then combined them to create a protest speech on their behalf to be played at the International Whaling Conference (IWC) in Morocco, with the long term goal of recording every word in the English language.
After all, who is better suited to giving people (or whales, as the case may be) the ability to make their voice heard than a telecommunications company?
All campaign elements drove to the campaign site that explained the cause.
People could record their one word using their computer, mobile or via a sea of microphones in the city centre.
People's recorded words were combined to produce a video which was played in front of delegates at the IWC conference.
